Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 May 2026
Sonic Explorer is a music-discovery app. We keep the personal data we collect to the minimum needed to run the app, and this page explains exactly what that is, why we hold it, who we share it with, and the control you have over it.
The data controller is the operator of Sonic Explorer. For any privacy question or request, contact privacy@sonicexplorer.io.
What we collect
- Your email address: only if you choose to create an account. There are no passwords; you sign in through a one-time link we email you.
- Your saved favorites and Quest of the Day progress: so they sync across the devices you sign in on. Anonymous (signed-out) use keeps this on your device only.
- Anonymous usage analytics: actions like searches, track plays and page views, tied to a random anonymous identifier, plus your device type (desktop or mobile) and which country you're browsing from.
We don't collect passwords (there are none), your name, or payment details. To default the music charts to your region, we briefly use your IP address to work out which country you're in. We don't store the IP address itself.
Why we hold it, and our legal basis
- Account email, favorites and quest progress: to provide the cross-device sync you asked for when you created an account (processing necessary to perform that service at your request).
- Anonymous analytics: to understand how the app is used and improve it (our legitimate interest). This data is pseudonymous and is not used to advertise to you or sold to anyone.
How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete your account (see Your rights below).
- Sign-in links: expire 30 minutes after they're issued and are then deleted. We never store the link itself, only a scrambled version that can't be turned back into a working one.
- Anonymous analytics: retained to analyse usage trends over time. Analytics tied to your account are removed when you delete your account.
Who we share it with
We never sell your data. Two providers handle your personal data on our behalf:
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Resend | Delivers your sign-in email; receives your email address for that purpose. |
| ipinfo.io | Converts an IP address into a country at the moment of a request. |
The app also loads album artwork and audio previews directly from Apple, so Apple sees your device's IP address as part of delivering that content, as on any site that embeds third-party media. We don't send Apple anything else about you.
Cookies & local storage
- Login session cookie: set only if you sign in, to keep you signed in. This is strictly necessary for the account feature to work.
- Local storage: an anonymous identifier so this device remembers your favorites, plus a per-session identifier used for the anonymous analytics above.
We don't use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your rights
If you're in the EU/UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, export, delete, and object to or restrict our use of your personal data. You can:
- Delete everything yourself: open the Account menu in the app and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your email, saved favorites, quest progress and account-linked analytics.
- Ask us: email privacy@sonicexplorer.io to access, correct or receive a copy of your data. We'll respond within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children
Sonic Explorer is not directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
